MEAM.Design - SolidWorks - Advanced Mates
Beyond the basic positional (mate/align/concentric/etc.) mates, there a number of more advanced mating options in SolidWorks. These can be accessed by opening the Advanced Mates section in the Mate panel. The various advanced options are detailed below:

Gear - using the gear mate, you can control the rate of rotation of one object relative to another, regardless of whether they are touching. To define this mate, you need to select the axis of rotation for each part (if the parts are round, you can often select the outer face and SolidWorks will infer that you intend to have the part rotate around the center), and define the speed ratio between the two parts. You can also set the relative rotation direction.
