Most of my recent work concerns the human figure -- sometimes treating it directly, sometimes obliquely, with strong abstracting elements like defocus or motion blur highlighting form and gesture. This series of images moves in the other direction -- like Michelangelo, searching for the figure in the stone. The originals were captured on a warm winter day high in the Colorado mountains; the precise qualities of palette and light that emerge in the final prints took years to ripen.
