Title: Broke-Broken, Bake-Bacon: Recent Adventures in Morphology Learning
Broke-Broken, Bake-Bacon: Recent Adventures in Morphology LearningWhat makes for a good computational model of morphology acquisition? If we have such a model, can it be used fo text processing tasks? I'll present joint work with Erwin Chan, Mitch Marcus, and Charles Yang that shows that a recent acquisition model can succeed in a child's learning environment and also be adapted to perform morphological analysis at a level competitive with leading statistical approaches. I'll discuss the linguistic and psychological motivations of the model, experimental results on child-directed data, and the process and results of adapting the model to function as a morphological analyzer.
