TRAVEL INFORMATION FOR CASE 2009
Directions to Reach Conference Venue from Bangalore International Airport
How to reach Hotel Lalit Ashok or the Indian Institute of Science (popularly called the Tata Institute) from the Bangalore International Airport?
The preferred method would be to exit the arrival terminal and proceed in the left direction where you will find a line (queue) of taxis or cabs waiting for you. Among these, the MERUCABS and EASYCABS provide excellent and safe service. We repeat this is the preferred method. Please note the following additional points:
- With MERUCABS, you may book your requirement online: http://www.merucabs.com/
- The above cabs cost you around Rs 500 to Rs 600 during the day hours and around Rs 700 to Rs 800 during the late night hours.
- The cab drivers will only accept Indian Rupees, so it is important that you have the Indian Rupee cash with you. They do not accept debit cards or credit cards or checks, etc. You might like to procure Indian Rupee cash upfront during your travel preparations itself. Alternatively, you may avail the Foreign exchange facilities available at the Bangalore International Airport upon your arrival. Please avoid carrying Rs 1000 denomination notes.
There are two other options for you:
- (a) Bus Shuttle (called VAJRA buses) to IISc (Tata Institute): BIAS-10, BIAS-11.
Bus Shuttle (called VAJRA buses) to Hotel Lalit Ashok: BIAS-9.
- (b) Prepaid Taxis whose counters you would see before you exit the arrival area
Option (b) is more expensive than the MERUCABS/EASYCABS option above. Option (a) is the least expensive.

Apart from the local language most of the drivers are conversant in Hindi, and English. The fare charges are Rs 7.00 per km with a minimum fare of Rs 14.00 for three passengers. When operated out of city limits and between 2200 and 0500 hours, the autos charge one and a half times the normal meter reading. Wherever possible, use of pre-paid auto service is recommended.
